Details

The "Cranach gown" is based on pictures by German artist Lucas Cranach (1472-1555), who was appointed court painter to the Electors of Saxony in 1505. He created numerous famous portraits, thus creating an insight into early 16th century fashion. The Cranach dress originates from Germany and no extant examples survived, which is why this pattern does not claim authenticity, but is based on pictorial evidence! This pattern helps you to create a gown in the style of the famous Cranach portraits. View A (left) is based on paintings like the portrait of Duchess Catherine of Mecklenburg (1514), "Judith with the head of Holofernes and two female companions" (1525) or "Portrait of a young woman" (1530). It features a front closure with stomacher, attached on one side, decorative facings/collars, slashed sleeves and a deep u-back. View B (right) is inspired by dresses as seen in "Portrait of Christiane of Eulenau" (1534) and "Judith with the head of Holofernes" (1530). The cut is similar to view A and has a standup collar.

All sizes included in the package.
